The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault invites individuals who provide formal or informal support and education for parents to grow their skills in preventing sexual assault. In May and June, we will tour the state to provide a curriculum training event in six Iowa communities. Training participants will learn how to teach our new prevention curriculum, Think About Your Son, to parents in their communities. Participants will also build their skills in communicating about sexual violence prevention with children of all ages and genders.

Think About Your Son is a parent education approach to sexual assault prevention. Combining the best available research with parents’ personal insights and cultural wisdom, it provides participants with the information, motivation and support to empower our sons to prevent sexual harm in all its forms.
This curriculum was created for use by educators and community leaders who want to address sexual assault prevention with the parents of boys. Its flexible design will allow the content to respond to parents’ developmental concerns across their sons’ growing up years. Think About Your Son includes seven key activities culminating in parents creating an individual parenting plan for parenting their sons in ways that build a healthy non-violent masculinity and prevent sexual harm in all its forms.
Rhonda Chittenden is a transformative educator, life coach, and advocate with a demonstrated impact in the nonprofit sector and beyond.
